You walked by, as I was reading a book, deciding whether I should buy it or not. You walked past me and our eyes met. I can't be sure, but I think I did a double take. You smiled and said "Hi" and that act unstuck the tongue from the roof of my mouth. I replied to your greeting and watched you go by. When I finally pulled myself together, I got up and went to look for you amongst the stacks. You were nowhere to be found. I walked the store, looking in every direction and you had simply vanished. Disappointed, I proceeded to the register. I didn't care much for the book I was reading, but I bought it anyway because every time I see it, it will remind me of your smile.
